St John of God Ballarat Hospital Peri-operative Services Manager Troy Tregilles said the hospital had purchased about $450,000 of equipment, which includes a high-powered surgical microscope, which is specifically used for neuro spinal surgery procedures.
“This equipment is the latest technology, which enables the surgeon to undertake minimally invasive techniques,” Mr Tregilles said.
St John of God Ballarat Hospital Chief Executive Officer Alex Demidov said it was pleasing to be able to offer this new service to patients in our region.
"With this new technology patients requiring neuro spinal surgery no longer need to travel to Melbourne for treatment," Mr Demidov said.
Neurosurgeon Tom Morris is an Australian trained Brain, Spine and Peripheral Nerve Specialist and provides comprehensive neurosurgical services in Melbourne and Western Victoria.
