Nurses Graduates Celebrate Together

The 2016 Nursing Graduates celebrated their graduation and the 2017 Graduate Nurses celebrated the commencement of their graduate year at a ceremony held on Tuesday 7th February 2017.

This combined celebration involving 2016 and 2017 nurse graduates was an initiative to celebrate the achievements of last year and to welcome the new graduates as they launch their nursing careers in a supportive program.

16 graduate nurses were presented with graduation certificates in recognition of the completion of the 2016 graduate program along with 2 graduate Midwives who have completed a Mid-Graduate Program.

The graduation ceremony is also used as an opportunity to welcome our 16 new graduates for 2017.

Clinical Educator Josh Stott said that the program is designed to ensure that the graduates are well supported through their first year of practicing as a Division One registered nurse.

“They gain experience in areas such as the orthopaedic unit, medical and oncology unit, surgical unit, theatre, rehabilitation, ICU and emergency department.”

“The 2016 Graduates have been a wonderful group who are committed to offering safe patient care of a high standard.”

“Through the support of our clinical teams our graduates are able to develop their professional skills and knowledge which prepares them well for their future in nursing.” Josh said.

Director of Nursing Maria Noonan said the graduates are well prepared by the Universities and our program helps consolidate their theory into practice.

“From the 2016 group all 16 have accepted permanent positions with the hospital in 2017 which is fantastic.”

“We are pleased that the hospital has shown an increase in retention rates of graduate nurses with 90% of Graduates still employed by St John of God Ballarat.” Maria said.
