In line with the divisional health service plan and divisional master-plan there is an imperative to expand and build our capacity to care for high acuity patients for the future as well as meet our current service demands.

As a result we have reviewed our current approach to supporting our nurses to develop their skills and
qualifications in Emergency Care nursing and agreed that “develop our own” approach remained preferred, partnering with the tertiary sector would create the best opportunity for skilled nurses to be retained within St John of God Ballarat Hospital and placement at a major tertiary trauma centre to gain exposure to acute trauma and work practises.

Fiona Fitzsimons (educator with the Emergency Department) has been accredited as an assessor for all competencies required to complete the course requirements in Graduate Certificate in Emergency nursing.

Shannon Millard, Amy Fortescue, Kerri Jasper and Judith Lancucki, have now successfully completed their post graduate studies with Australian Catholic University. We would like to congratulate them all on their hard work and determination.
