Vivienne Beggs Scholarship recipient JessicaJessica, who works as an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse in Hawkesbury’s Maria Lock Ward said that when reading about Vivienne Beggs and her admirable nursing career, she felt excited to share the same passion for nursing as Vivienne did.

“I applied for the scholarship because I thought it would be nice to be given the opportunity to honour Vivienne’s memory and be recognised for sharing the same passion for nursing as she did.

“I started as an assistant in nursing in 2012 and have slowly worked my way up, which I believe has helped me to be a better nurse.

“I started working at St John of God Hawkesbury nearly two years ago and as well as working full time, have started studying my Bachelor of Nursing at Western Sydney University.

“At the end of my degree I will be a registered nurse, which opens up many career pathways for me including the possibility of one day being able to educate nursing students.

“This will make a huge difference to the patient care I deliver as it will increase my knowledge base and skill set. I will also be able to offer more to my patients and colleagues.

“My responsibilities will grow which I am excited for.”

Jessica said that she loves nursing, working at St John of God Hawkesbury and being part of the local Hawkesbury community.

“I love nursing because I am always learning something new.

“I enjoy helping people and find it rewarding to be there for patients and their carers during difficult times. Being an advocate for patients is important to me.

“Working at Hawkesbury District Health Service is fantastic. I have made new friends and my colleagues are so dedicated, hardworking and supportive. I feel very lucky to have found my place here.”
