The superhero-style Supertees are specifically designed for children in hospital with the t-shirts including quick release fastening down the sides and shoulders for treatment to be administered easily while a superhero-style cape can double as a bib.

Hawkesbury District Health Service Chief Executive Officer Strephon Billinghurst said the t-shirts would be well-received by children who were receiving treatment or recovering after surgery at the hospital.

“Thank you to the Lions Pride Holden Club and their community sponsors for this gift that will bring a smile to the faces of some of our youngest patients who are spending time in hospital,” he said.

“The Supertees are a wonderful idea to help make a child’s stay in hospital more comfortable and I’m looking forward to meeting the superheroes on our wards.”

Lions Pride Holden Club President Harry Elvin said that they were thrilled with the support from local business who donated funds for the purchase of the shirts.

“The shirts are such a great idea and when we approached local business, they were more than happy to get behind the concept and support our local hospital,” he said.

"We are hoping to provide more shirts again next year.

“Our members were thrilled to come to Hawkesbury District Health Service to present the Supertees. Seeing the excitement on the children’s faces brought us a lot of joy.”

The Lions Pride Holden Club is a non-profit organisation for Holden car enthusiasts, with the aim of giving back to the local community.

Supertees were the brain child of Sydney father Jason, who watched his own daughter battle a rare type of cancer.

While undergoing treatment, Jason noticed the difficulty nurses had with changing his daughter’s clothes while connected to various drips and monitors.

His 3 year old son would come to visit his sister dressed up as a super hero to save his sister which provided Jason with inspiration to create the Supertee for children to brighten their day and give them the courage to fight and win the battle with their illness.

The Supertees come in a colourful box together with a superhero comic book and inspirational stickers.
