Federal Election – patient voting information

Please note that the Australian Federal Election is occurring on Saturday 18 May 2019. If you are likely to be in hospital on that day due to an elective procedure you will need to make arrangements to vote before your hospital admission.

 Voting in hospital

Some St John of God Health Care hospitals will have AEC polling teams providing mobile voting facilities for patients in the two weeks leading up to polling day for the election – details below.

This means voting can be conducted in similar conditions to those provided at a polling place, including complete privacy, but without having to actually attend a polling place.

If for any reason, these arrangements do not suit your personal circumstances, then you may still apply for a postal vote. The available options for voting are outlined on the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website at https://www.aec.gov.au/voting/ways_to_vote or phone the AEC on 13 23 26.

Patients who are unable to vote due to an unplanned admission (non-elective) will be provided with a hospital certificate upon discharge that may be submitted to the AEC as evidence to support an inability to vote.
