Does the start of another year bring up strong emotions?

One of the roles of case managers at Head to Health is to help each client discover what a meaningful future looks like for them. Allied mental health professional Natalie Wo explains.

The start of a new year is often a time of reflection on the past 12 months and planning for the future and, depending on where you’re at, this can sometimes bring up strong feelings - maybe even despair or dread.

If this is you, consider seeking support to plan for a hopeful future. Head to Health supports adults with mild to moderate mental health and emotional concerns, including distress and anxiety. No appointment, referral or Medicare card are necessary and services are provided at no cost.

Services at Armadale and Midland are open every single day of the year from 10.00am to 8.00pm, while our centres at Gosnells and Mirrabooka are co-located within medical practices and open 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

“Many people find it challenging to know where to go or who to turn to in order to access support that they need,” says Natalie, who undertakes assessments and client sessions.

“This is what we are trying to change here at Head to Health. Our services are free. You don’t need an appointment or a referral to see us and our services in Midland and Armadale are open quite late into the evening every day of the year,” she says.

Natalie says that this time of year can see an increase in the number of people experiencing significant stress or loneliness, as they navigate extended holidays and changes to routine and family contact.

“As a case manager, I am the person my clients will see each time they come in,” she says.

“I help them establish positive personal goals and work with them to take small actions to move towards those goals.

“If you need to chat to someone about what’s on your mind, get it out in the open and come and see us today.”
