St John of God Social Outreach successfully applied for the Lotterywest grant to support the delivery of vital mental health, Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) and homelessness services during this time of increased demand.

St John of God Social Outreach CEO Susan Cantwell said the grant would assist services to deliver critical support to vulnerable individuals.

“For the young people in our Horizon Houses, the new computer equipment will help them undertake their studies, search for employment and develop the basic digital literacy that is critical in today’s society,” Susan said.

“For SWCADS and our community mental health services, it will support the delivery of telehealth, which provides improved access for clients and allows us to broaden our geographic reach, particularly in regional areas where there are limited, if any, face-to-face services available.”

Within the first 3.5 months of offering telehealth services, St John of God Social Outreach has delivered more than 6,500 sessions.

“It is vital that our services are able to quickly adapt to best meet the needs of our clients, particularly as we face the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which sees us operating in a climate where there is a high level of uncertainty and continual change,” Susan said.

“We need to remain responsive and flexible and having access to quality computing equipment supports us to do that.

“On behalf of St John of God Social Outreach and the clients that we serve here in WA, I would like to sincerely thank LotteryWest for supporting us to support some of the most vulnerable members in the community.”
