Marillac Ltd supports people with disabilities and their families in the south Melbourne metropolitan region.

Marillac Ltd is now an entity of St John of God Health Care and will be operated by the health care group’s Victorian disability service, St John of God Accord that currently services north-east Melbourne.

Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Michael Stanford said St John of God Health Care will continue the good works of the Daughters of Charity, who started the Marillac service in 1943.

“We will ensure the compassionate support and service the Daughters of Charity and the staff of Marillac Ltd have extended to their clients and their families continues uninterrupted and within a Catholic service ethos,” Dr Stanford said.

“As a large health care group with a significant disability service already operating in Melbourne, St John of God Health Care has the capacity to invest in Marillac Ltd for the future and the expertise to transition the service into the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

“The NDIS provides greater choice for people with disability and their families and supports them to achieve their life goals.

“When the services of Marillac and St John of God Accord combine, with the support of St John of God Health Care, it will have the scale and financial security to deliver the highest quality, individualised support to its clients.”

“St John of God Health Care has recently invested $8 million in the redevelopment of St John of God Accord and the service is at the forefront of improving and growing facilities and services for people with disability and their families,” Dr Stanford said.

St John of God Accord, with the inclusion of Marillac Ltd, will be one of the larger disability support services in Victoria and will service most of the Melbourne metropolitan area. A combined workforce of over 500 dedicated disability staff will provide services to more than 660 clients and their families and guardians.

St John of God Health Care is the largest faith-based provider of disability services in Australia and has plans to substantially increase its service to the disability sector.
