Clemens, who normally feels the heat preparing patient meals in the hospital kitchen, will be joining hundreds of St John of God Health Care caregivers in the HBF Run for a Reason.

With plans to the complete the half marathon this weekend, that achievement has already been overshadowed by his other running adventures including recently becoming the World Champion at the M50 Masters Marathon in Perth and World Half-marathon Champion in South Korea.

He has also completed the Berlin, Boston and Chicago marathons.

And how does he prepare? By running and average of 160 kilometres a week.

After this weekend’s run, Clemens said he has reached the end of his competitive running days.

“I’ll still keep running of course,” he said.

“But only for fitness.”

Clemens, who is originally from Germany, came to Australia after working and travelling in America. After 10 years working at hotels in Perth, he joined St John of God Murdoch Hospital with the allure of family-friendly hours and the team spirit that comes with working in the kitchen.
