St John of God Health Care and the Laboratrio Nacional da Saude (LNS) Executive hosted a BBQ for staff from LNS, HNGV laboratories and visiting district laboratory staff to acknowledge the contribution of the teams in the provision of pathology services to the country.

As part of the event, staff were asked to submit answers to what they most liked about their jobs, in a bid to win tickets to the Platinum Cineplex at Timor Plaza.

Manager of the St John of God Pathology Development Program Nick Hayes said that pathology services are critical to diagnosis and treatment of patients in Timor-Leste, and that the laboratories need a team of professional technicians and scientists to operate them.

“Our Pathology Development Program focuses on building the capacity of laboratory staff at Timor-Leste’s national hospital and the National Reference Laboratory. It also provides some outreach to district communities,” said Nick.

“By recognising the significant contributions of the pathology staff in Timor-Leste, we hope to increase the pride and dedication of the team as they start to recognise themselves as a well-trained and truly professional workforce.”

St John of God Health Care has been operating in Timor-Leste since 2004 and has implemented pathology and nursing development programs to facilitate access to better quality healthcare for the people of Timor-Leste.

St John of God Health Care's capacity building work in Timor-Leste is proudly supported by Conoco Phillips Australia.
