Healthcare at Home delivers record number of South West visits as demand grows

In-home hospital care continues to rise in the South West, with St John of God Health Care’s Healthcare at Home service reaching a new monthly high of 300 visits.

09 April 2026

The milestone reflects growing community awareness of the Healthcare at Home service and increasing demand for care that allows eligible patients to receive treatment at home while remaining closely connected to their hospital care team.

Healthcare at Home, Bunbury Nurse Manager, Melissa Bishop said the service provides eligible patients a range of treatments in the comfort of their own home.

“We have a team of dedicated nurses based in the South West who support patients with a range of post‑hospital needs, including wound care, medical infusions, chemotherapy, stoma support and intravenous antibiotics.”

“A key feature of Healthcare at Home is the continuity of care we provide. Our nurses don’t just visit - they stay closely connected with the patient’s hospital team and specialists so treatment at home is truly an extension of their hospital care.

“In addition to the practical benefits of receiving treatment at home patients appreciate being able to stay better connected to their support networks of family and friends and avoiding unnecessary travel.” Healthcare at Home Executive Vanessa Unwin congratulated the Bunbury team on successfully delivering a record number of home visits and the seamless patient care provided.

“The team works closely with referring hospitals, oncologists, haematologists and pharmacists. Referrals can be made from St John of God Bunbury Hospital, as well as other local hospitals and Perth-based facilities, helping ensure care is safe, coordinated and well supported.” To access Healthcare at Home, speak to your health care provider about a referral.
