Mark Scatena appointed to St John of God Health Care Board

St John of God Health Care is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Scatena, BE MBA, to its Board, effective 8 April 2024.

Mr Scatena is an experienced business leader in Australia with strong business acumen, having held key executive leadership roles across a variety of sectors including investment, retail, industrial and real estate.

Mr Scatena is currently the Managing Director of BWP Management Limited, the responsible entity for BWP Trust, an ASX-listed release estate trust investing in and managing commercial properties throughout Australia. 

Mr Scatena joined Wesfarmers Limited in 2001 and has held senior roles across WesCEF (the Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers division of Wesfarmers), Target, Coles and Wesfarmers.  

Most recently he was General Manager of CSBP Fertilisers with oversight across all strategic, commercial and operational activities. He has also held leadership roles at Target, including as Chief Financial Officer and General Manager Digital; at Wesfarmers as General Manager Investor Relations and Planning; and at Coles where he was General Manager Finance, supporting the store development, store operations and property functions. 

Mr Scatena holds Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Western Australia. 

St John of God Health Care Board Chair Hon Kerry Sanderson AC CVO said that Mr Scatena’s appointment would further strengthen the Board as the organisation reshapes to meet changing community expectations and needs.

“Mr Scatena has extensive capability in high performing businesses where he has provided operational and strategic direction across a range of functions,” she said.

“We look forward to Mr Scatena joining our Board and bringing strong financial and commercial acumen, together with extensive knowledge of retail property operations and capital markets.”

Mrs Sanderson also thanked outgoing Board member Adrian Arundel who is re-locating to Sydney with his family. Adrian served on the St John of God Health Care Board for six years. 

“Adrian was an outstanding Board member and his professionalism and skills as well as his values and energy were invaluable to our organisation,” Mrs Sanderson said.

“Adrian chaired the Audit and Risk Committee for some time and was a member of the Finance and Investment Committee throughout his term.”

The St John of God Health Care Board now has 11 Directors after the recent appointments of Professor Peter Bremner and Julie Keene, with more than one third female representation.
