Eugene shares his experience about working for the organisation.
Bennita and I were seeking a change in environment and decided to “take the leap” and moved to Perth from the United Kingdom in early 2022.From the start, St John of God Health Care was very accommodating and helpful with the recruitment process. They made everything really easy, from sorting out visa applications to helping me gain my workplace accreditation.
Both my wife and I are very happy working at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals.
St John of God Health Care really appealed to us and I felt that its Mission and Vision really aligned with my personal values. I also liked the fact St John of God Health Care is a large organisation with many career opportunities.
We visited Australia a few years before and Perth really appealed to us.
St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals is a close knit workplace and I feel very supported and included.
Previously I worked in large hospitals where you did not know everyone working in your department, let alone other departments. But at Midland, we know each other and when I go around the hospital everyone is very friendly and many know who I am. I like the fact I can go to the caregiver cafeteria and the caregivers know my order and my name. It is a very friendly environment.
The consultant body is very supportive and helped facilitate my workplace-based assessments so I could meet the criteria and obtain a Fellowship of Australasian College Emergency Medicine.
Everyone looks out for each other and will often check on each other’s wellbeing.
There is also a lot of professional development opportunities and they are very encouraging about progressing your interests.
They have been particularly supportive in my roster preferences so that I can be home with our young child when Bennita is at work. It has been really great.
The organisation has a real focus on work life balance which is really good, as it allows us to do the things we want to do when we are not working.
Perth is a beautiful place to live. I am very laid back and don’t enjoy living in a fast-paced and large city. Perth is ideal for my needs and has everything you need.
Perth is a real melting pot of different cultures. Whatever your background, you can access contemporary and authentic cuisine and meet people from your homeland.
You don’t really miss home as there are people from everywhere here.
I really encourage anyone thinking about making the move to consider your options, take the leap and enjoy the experience.
