St John of God Health Care acquired the 118-bed Mt Alvernia Mercy Hospital in February 2005, renaming it St John of God Hospital, Bendigo.
St John of God Health Care is proudly continuing the Catholic tradition and mission of providing excellence in health care at Bendigo, which was started by the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood who founded the hospital in 1961. In 1997, Mercy Health & Aged Care acquired the hospital, which has become a modern and successful regional private hospital.
St John of God Health Care is committed to investing in the hospital's future, developing services and facilities to serve the regional and rural communities of Bendigo and central and northern Victoria.
St John of God Hospital, Bendigo is a division of St John of God Health Care, one of Australia's largest health care providers.
