Events
Events Calendar
St John of God Pathology celebrates its five
core Values of Hospitality, Compassion, Respect, Justice and
Excellence
by holding special activities during the year.
8 March - St John of God Feast Day
Each year in March, we celebrate St John of
God Feast Day at all of our collection centres and laboratories to
acknowledge the life of our Patron Saint.
7 October - Foundation Day
The Congregation of the Sisters of St John of
God was founded on 7th October 1871 when a group of Irish women,
led by Bridget Clancy, responded to a call by Thomas Furlong, the
Bishop of Ferns in County Wexford, to minister to the sick and
destitute people of his diocese. The Irish women undertook nursing
training and educational tasks. Twenty years later, the
Sisters responded to a request from Bishop Gibney in Western
Australia to assist with the typhoid epidemic amongst the miners in
the Goldfields. Since their arrival in WA in 1895, the Sisters of
St John of God have made an outstanding contribution to health care
across Australia.
St John of God Pathology celebrates the
Sisters' Foundation Day on 7 October each year. This
annual celebration takes place at our Pathology collection centres
and laboratories in Western Australia, Victoria and throughout the
rest of St John of God Health Care.
St John of God Pathology marks this
anniversary with ceremonies and historical accounts. The
ultimate event of the day is a Length of Service
Award Ceremony where caregivers are presented with certificates and
badges in recognition of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 year periods
of service.
The celebration of Foundation Day gives
caregivers the opportunity to learn about our heritage and
rediscover the journey of our forebears. This day is when we remind
ourselves of the journey, of our calling, and celebrate our
achievements as we set our sights on the coming year.
