Admissions

Booking into hospital

Our Booking Officer will organise all clerical and financial details, which will streamline your admission.

You will receive a Booking into Hospital form from your Doctor that should be completed and given to the hospital either in person or by mail, as soon as practicable before your admission date.

You may be contacted by our Pre-Admission nurses who can assist with medical related questions, after-hospital care requirements and may discuss pre-admission tests your doctor has requested such as an X-Ray or ECG.

What to bring

On admission day, please bring:

  • All forms, letters and requests from your doctor
  • Current medications
  • Pyjamas, dressing gown, slippers and toiletries (if staying overnight)
  • Reading material, reading glasses, a pen or something of your choice to do whilst waiting

Bedside lockers are available for small items in the ward area. We advise however that you do not bring jewellery or large amounts of cash into the hospital.

Admission day

On arrival at the hospital please report to the reception desk. From here you will be directed to the ward and met by your caregivers to finalise your admission details and orientate you to your environment.

All surgical patients will be admitted through the Day Surgery Unit. Patients who require an overnight or longer stay will then be transferred to their room in the ward, after surgery.

Discharge planning

Discharge planning begins at your pre-admission consultation; over the phone or in person. It is important you are propertly prepared for your return home. Your discharge planning is a team process involving your family or carers, doctors and nurses. Part of this planning is to ensure all necessary arrangements for medical appointments, hiring of medical aids, District Nursing, Meals on Wheels etc have been made. For questions about your discharge planning, please speak to your caregiver.
