Our services

Apart from our group Social Outreach and Advocacy services, here at Warrnambool we work closely with our local community, and those further afield, on a range of other activities, usually in partnership with local community groups addressing disadvantage. These include:

Raphael Centre South West Victoria

Our Raphael Centre provides information and support to women and their families affected by pre and post natal anxiety, stress and depression. Post-natal depression and community counselling is available to clients in the Warrnambool, Moyne and Corangamite Shires.

Mental health services

We are committed to meeting the needs of patients with mental illness by ensuring they receive comprehensive services and care of the highest quality. In Warrnambool, we operate a number of mental health services directed at the treatment of anxiety, depression, grief and loss. Most of our services are conducted in the community, in settings where clients feel comfortable. This enables easier access to mental health services for many people and removes potential stigmatisation often encountered by those accessing mainstream mental health care. We also provide help to people with body image and substance use issues as well as specific services for Aboriginal people.

Providing financial assistance to Anglicare

We provide financial assistance to Anglicare help them buy food for their Empty Cupboard Program, which assists people in need within our region.

Community Support Leave for caregivers

We actively encourage caregivers to contribute to the community and provide Community Support Leave, which enables them to apply for up to four hours per month or one week per year of paid leave to match an equivalent amount of personal leave to provide voluntary services to organisations addressing disadvantage.

Donation of equipment and supplies

We donate hospital equipment, computers, medical supplies and pharmaceuticals to health professionals and community groups working with the disadvantaged.

East Timor

St John of God Hospital Warrnambool, together with the wider community, has been active in supporting the Bakhita Primary Health Clinic in Eraulo, East Timor. Caregivers, local doctors and allied health professionals have volunteered their time to provide direct care and training at the centre.

Support has also been provided to the Salesian Orphanages in Venilale and Lago. The hospital provides clothing, footwear, toiletries, books, sporting equipment, and stationary as required.

Shamrock House

Shamrock House is a safe haven in the community for those requiring assistance in a time of personal crisis or need. The hospital provides financial assistance to Father Murphy to assist in purchasing food for Shamrock house.

Warrnambool Community Meal program

We provide soup for the community meal (soup kitchen) program and caregivers are rostered to assist in providing the meal program.
