Top accreditation for Catering

26th October 2011

New accreditation leads straight to excellence awards

Just three months after being the first private hospital in Western Australia to earn the highest possible Food Safety Management accreditation, the Catering Department at St John of God Hospital Subiaco (SJOGHS) have been chosen as a finalist for a National Systems Excellence Award.

Receiving this award would be a great reward for the Hospital’s catering department, who have spent the past two years preparing to achieve the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards, a feat only accomplished by a handful of hospitals throughout Australia.

According to the Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Shane Kelly, it was important for the Hospital to continue it’s commitment to lead the way in health care and be the first in Western Australia to achieve the highest possible Food Safety Management Accreditation.

“We always strive to exceed patient expectations by providing them with high quality, nutrionally balanced and tasty meals that are tailored specifically to their needs, which in turn helps to ensure their stay in hospital as pleasant as possible,” Dr Kelly said.

“It is a great honour to be nominated for a National Systems Excellence Award in the first year of certification within the Food Management System, and I highly commend the dedication of Catering Department.”

Run by international company SAI Global, the award recognises organisations who have demonstrated exceptional management systems that exceed standard requirements and show innovation and leadership.

“Being chosen as a finalist is a credit to everyone in our catering department, and I thank them for their ongoing commitment to producing high quality food for our patients,” Dr Kelly said.

The Hospital is one of seven organisations nominated in the Food Safety Management Systems category and the winner will be announced at a gala dinner in Sydney on 17th November.
