‘Charity of Choice’ announced
Continuing its commitment to supporting
disadvantaged members of the community, St John of God Hospital
Subiaco (SJOGHS) recently announced its 2011-2013 ‘Charity of
Choice’ - Passages Resource Centre.
Passages provides Perth's marginalised and homeless young people
with a “passage” to help them to transition from one life to
another. Young people are helped to get off the streets and adopt
safer and healthier lifestyles.
Staff voted for the organisation as their
chosen charity, with each Hospital department encouraged to support
Passages by raising funds in the form of a food stall, raffle or
collection of goods.
SJOGHS CEO, Dr Shane Kelly, said the Charity
of Choice program is a wonderful way in which the Hospital can
‘give back’ to the community and fulfil its Mission whilst also
providing staff with an opportunity to be directly involved.
“It was with great pride that we chose the
Passages Resource Centre as our charity for 2011 – 2013 - it is an
organisation which greatly complements the Mission and Values of
our Hospital,” Dr Kelly said.
“Our staff thoroughly enjoy supporting this
worthy program and have several fundraising initiatives planned,
which is a wonderful example of the generosity and spirit of our
people.”
This week the Hospital employees will hold a
winter warmer lunchtime stall selling hot beef and gravy rolls,
with with all funds raised going directly to supporting the work
that Passages provides for the community.
The Charity of Choice initiative is an
integral part of the Hospital’s dedicated Social Outreach and
Advocacy partnerships which allows Hospital staff and volunteers to
become actively involved in supporting the community through
fundraising activities.
