Paediatrics

child

Our paediatric unit is a purpose-built 12 bed children’s ward opened in July 2001. The ward is staffed by specialised paediatric caregivers who are committed to providing your child with the highest level of care, to make their hospital stay as enjoyable as possible. You can feel safe in the knowledge that you’ll have constant support, guidance and expertise from our highly skilled paediatric team.

Facilities

The unit offers first class facilities designed with children and young people in mind, is brightly painted and has a playroom and parents' retreat. We provide care for children with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions from newborns through to adolescents. The unit accommodates up to 12 patients in both private and shared facilities. All rooms have an ensuite and there is a telephone and television for each bed. One parent/carer is welcome to stay with their child overnight and full rooming-in facilities are provided (a boarding fee applies).

The ward provides children/adolescents with a variety of entertainment games and play activities including DVDs, Nintendo, Playstation, a digital fun centre, board games and crafts. These can be accessed at their bedside or in our well-equipped playroom.

Radio Lollypop volunteers and Captain Starlight visit St Gabriel’s regularly, providing fun activities and laughter including magical performances, karaoke, ballooning, art and craft and face painting.
