Orthopaedics

Nursing Caregivers at MurdochThe orthopaedic unit (St Emilies and St Lukes) is divided into two 30 bed wards.

The caregivers of St Emilies and St Lukes, “The Orthopaedic Team”, strive to provide holistic care that promotes life to the full by enhancing the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual dimensions of the individual.

Our aim is to support, encourage and educate our patients and their families within our vision of “Caring for One and All”.

Therefore, our goal is for the patient to be independent and return to a safe home environment.

Our Orthopaedic Unit

The unit provides care for major joint replacements and other minor orthopaedic surgery. Our customers include elective patients as well as minor trauma patients that arrive via our emergency department.

Prior to your hospital stay, we encourage a visit to the orthopaedic pre-admission clinic or a telephone interview to answer any queries relating to your surgery. At the same time you will be able to discuss equipment and home support needs required for discharge.

We have a multidisciplinary approach towards care, incorporating other allied health services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work and a case manager coordinator to ensure that your discharge from the unit is effortless.

Weekly allied health discharge meetings are an important part of the care model, and facilitate review of each patient needs and individual service requirements with the goal of moving the patient towards discharge.

Our orthopaedic caregivers have a great awareness of the impact of falls related to the individual and the community. We strive to educate patients and the community in falls management and prevention. We are involved in education days for the community during Stay on Your Feet Week.
