Intensive Care Unit - Coronary Care Unit
St John of God Hospital Murdoch’s 15
bed Intensive Care / Coronary Care Unit combines state of the art
facilities with expert medical physicians and highly trained
nursing staff to provide specialist acute care for patients.
Close family are welcome to visit patients, however, please
remember the privacy and comfort of all patients in the unit is
essential. This guide will help you and us when you visit.
When you are visiting the Intensive Care / Coronary Care Unit
(ICU/CCU) it is important to remember that the patients in the unit
are critically ill with generally life-threatening
conditions.
For their comfort and yours we ask that you respect the
following:
- Visiting is planned around patient care, it is important to
check with the nurse in charge each time you visit, even when
returning from a short break.
- Before proceeding into the unit, please speak to a caregiver
via the intercom located within the visitor waiting area. Due to
the nature of the unit you may have to press the intercom again
should you not receive a response.
- Visitors are restricted to members of the immediate family and
close friends if patient and next-of-kin agree. Only two visitors
at any one time.
- Before allowing children under the age of 12 to
visit please check your family member’s condition with the nurse in
charge
- To help us maintain our strict hygiene standards, please clean
your hands with the alcohol based hand hygiene gel provided before
visiting your family member.
- Switch off all mobile telephones prior to entering the
unit.
- During your visit you may be asked to leave so care can
be provided or so a Doctor is able to undertake a review. We would
appreciate your understanding and compliance on these
occasions.
In the interests of patient safety, flowers are not permitted in
the unit.
If you have any concerns please speak to the coordinator or
Nurse Manager of the ICU/CCU.
