Doctors of the Year 2010 - Dr Michael Slattery & Dr
Charles Crompton

Paediatricians Dr Michael Slattery and Dr Charles Crompton were
last night recognized as St John of God Hospital Murdoch’s Doctors
of the Year for 2010.
Murdoch CEO Peter Mott said that working together, the two
doctors had provided prompt, professional and compassionate care to
paediatric patients since the hospital opened in 1994.
“They are both quiet achievers and until last night, had no idea
that they would be our Doctors of the Year,” said Mr Mott.
“Charlie and Mike have a wonderful approach to patient care - in
fact, some newly sleep deprived mums with unsettled babies often
refer to Charlie and Mike as the “Baby Whisperers,” said Mr
Mott.
“The commitment that these two men have shown to their patients,
families and the hospital over many years is extraordinary - Dr
Michael Slattery and Dr Charles Crompton are most worthy recipients
of our 2010 St John of God Hospital Murdoch Doctors of the Year,”
said Mr Mott.
Profile: Dr Michael Slattery
Dr Michael Slattery was born in Carlton Victoria, and after
completing his medical degree in 1980 at the University of Western
Australia, he worked around the State including an internship at
Fremantle Hospital, and stints in Geraldton and Koolan Island
before commencing at Princess Margaret Hospital in 1984.
Dr Slattery specialised in General and Neonatal Paediatrics and
was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of
Physicians (Paediatric Division) in 1990.
His wife Tracey recalled the early days of private practice in
spartan premises in Fremantle, where she typed from Michael’s
longhand letters, as dictaphones and computers were seen as a
luxury item for the then young specialist.
Dr Slattery also worked at Fremantle Hospital and provided on
call cover to other hospitals including Armadale &
Gosnells.
He was first accredited to Murdoch in late 1993 and has been at
the hospital ever since providing wonderful care to babies,
children and their parents.
Profile: Dr Charles Crompton
Dr Charles Crompton was born in Adelaide South Australia, and
completed his medical degree at the University of Adelaide in
1979. He trained at Princess Margaret Hospital and later
worked in Toronto Canada.
Dr Crompton did an internship at Royal Darwin Hospital and
worked at Townsville General Hospital, Launceston General Hospital
and with the Royal Flying Doctors Service in Cairns.
He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of
Physicians (Paediatric Division) in 1990, specialising in General
and Neonatal Paediatrics as well as Paediatric
Nephrology.
Dr Crompton’s hospital appointments have included Princess
Margaret, Osborne Park, Glengarry, Wanneroo and St John of God
Hospitals Subiaco and Murdoch.
He was accredited to Murdoch in late 1993, and like Dr Slattery
has been at the hospital ever since and currently serves as a
member of Murdoch’s Medical Advisory Committee.
