Design team announced for Murdoch Redevelopment

Monday 20 June 2011

Prominent hospital architects Silver Thomas Hanley will lead the design team for the $200m+ redevelopment of St John of God Hospital Murdoch.

The project will be managed by Project Directors Australia, with the design team including:

BPA Engineering Pty Ltd Structural / Civil
ETC (Engineering Technology Consultants)   Electrical
SMW&C (Stevens McGann Willcock & Copping Pty Ltd)  Mechanical
SPP Group Hydraulic
Ian Lush Code Compliance
Wood & Grieve Engineers  Fire Engineering
Rider Levett Bucknall   Cost Management

Director of Hospital Redevelopment Dean Lavers said that a lot of work was going on behind the scenes at this stage with the appointment of the design team a big step forward.

“A thorough tender process identified the design team that we are confident will provide the hospital with the best mix of skills and experience.” Mr Lavers said.

“The Hospital is strongly committed to environmental sustainability, and a key objective for the design team will be to ensure sustainable development principles are incorporated into the design,” he said.

The project now goes into detailed design – a collaborative process between the design team and internal user groups consisting of hospital caregivers and medical practitioners.

St John of God Health Care is investing $234m at its Murdoch Hospital, significantly increasing the hospital’s capacity to provide high quality health services to communities in Perth’s south.

The Murdoch expansion will increase the hospital from 357 to 522 beds, which combined with more treatment facilities will allow an additional 25,000 patients to be cared for each year.
