Murdoch gets onboard with Brookfield

Multiplex

The St John of God Murdoch Hospital redevelopment continues to gather pace with the announcement that Brookfield Multiplex will partner with the Hospital following a tender process for thbrookfielde next phase of the project.

The announcement follows the Metropolitan Central Joint Development Assessment Panel’s approval of the hospital’s $200m+ redevelopment plan last week.

St John of God Health Care’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Michael Stanford, said the announcements were significant for both the St John of God Murdoch Hospital and the Group.

“We’re beginning to see real progress on a number of fronts, with this announcement for our Murdoch Hospital and our recent success in being selected by the Western Australian Government as the preferred respondent for the new Midland Health Campus, a project on which we will also be partnering with Brookfield Multiplex.

“I’m particularly pleased with the innovative approach taken at Murdoch to partner with the builder early in the process as a way of developing close relationships with our contractors and ensuring the best outcome for all parties”, Dr Stanford said.

St John of God Murdoch Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Peter Mott, said the hospital was looking forward to the next phase of the development.

“With Brookfield Multiplex now appointed we’ll begin to see some building activity over the next few months with the main works, comprising a new patient ward block and medical centre commencing around August of this year,” he said.

“We expect to begin commissioning some expanded clinical services from late 2013 with all new facilities for patients completed by late 2014.  Our expanded hospital will ultimately provide care for an additional 25,000 people each year and also provide fantastic employment opportunities in an innovative and vibrant hospital setting,” said Mr Mott.

  • An additional 120 inpatient beds
  • An additional birthing room, providing a total of 6 birthing rooms
  • Expanded critical care capability in ICU/CCU to provide capacity for 25 beds
  • Provision of an additional 8 operating theatres, taking the total to 18 theatres
  • Creation of a new cancer centre, featuring a 20-place day chemotherapy unit
  • A new 12,600 sqm multi-storey medical centre facing the front entrance of the
