Leading Day Surgery

Delivering gold class health care to the Geelong community

23 June 2011

Health care consumers in Geelong have every right to expect the best of care and St John of God Hospital Geelong is playing a leading role in responding to that expectation. In yet another first, the hospital has been recognised by its patients as one of the leading providers of day surgery services in Australia.

In the most recent nationwide satisfaction survey conducted by Press Ganey, perception of care feedback from  patients receiving care in the new surgery centre ranked the service on top of over 100 day surgery services across Australia.

The survey measures feedback across a range of area’s including staff skill, friendliness, waiting times, patient privacy, quality of the facility and pain control with the hospital's result one of the highest on record.

The hospital's Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Roberts, described this as an absolutely fantastic result for the hospital and the Geelong community. "We established our new surgery centre in 2009 with a commitment to bringing a new benchmark in service quality to Geelong and this outcome is so very reassuring for our hospital and the community."

Our hospital has an unwavering commitment to continue delivering great care and innovation to Geelong, he said.

The hospital has recently opened a new Special Care Nursery and Day Oncology Unit and has announced plans for a $56.3M redevelopment due to commence later this year.

Mr Roberts said: "We have a very clear growth strategy but one that constantly calls upon us to do all we can to continue delivering care that responds to the unique needs of our patients. The Geelong community should expect gold standard care and we intend to continue to meet that expectation."

"It’s wonderful to deliver new facilities but even better to be able to deliver truly distinctive care to our community," Mr Roberts said.
