Reducing our environmental footprint

Our desire to care for each other and the environment is
captured in our environmental logo (above), which was developed to
highlight and support our environmental initiatives.
Our Group Environmental Management Network comprises
representatives from all divisions and continues to develop
programs to reduce waste, water, energy and greenhouse emissions
and ensure compliance with current and emerging legislation.
The network is building a culture of environmental stewardship
within the organisation, which includes an Environmental Action
Plan focusing on 10 areas:
- Environmental management system
- Waste management
- Energy management
- Water management
- Greenhouse gas management and abatement
- Environmentally preferable purchasing
- Ecologically sustainable design
- Reducing paper use
- Environmental awareness
- Environmental funding
Our journey towards an environmentally sustainable future has
included investing in an Environmental Capital Expenditure Fund to
support divisions to minimise the environmental impact of
their activities. The fund has committed over $2.5m for approved
capital projects to reduce energy, water and waste in our
divisions. All projects have a long term, sustainable benefit.

Geelong Hospital
Locally we are continuing this commitment to the
environment.
To date we have completed the installation of dual flush
toilets, low flow shower heads, replacement of all downlights to
LED lights and water harvesting program including tanks with
20,000L capacity.
We would like to acknowledge the contribution of the St John of
God Health Care Environment Fund and Barwon Water in assisting our
hospital make the necessary changes to infrastructure to reduce the
amount of water used.
In addition, a site wide recycling program in conjunction
with Sweeney Todd Waste Disposal and St Laurence Paper
Services demonstrates our ecological concern and respect for
the earth in our disposal of waste.
