Forward Works

Forward works near completion at South West health campus

Preliminary construction activities, known as ‘forward works’, are underway at the South West Health Campus and are on schedule for completion by 15 December 2011.

St John of God Hospital Bunbury Chief Executive Officer, Mark Grime, said three months of major preliminary work to realign the internal road and construct underground infrastructure had cleared the way for the next stage of building works to commence in January 2012.

"The entire South West community can celebrate the completion of the last three months work – work that keeps the project on schedule to open a new Coronary Care Unit, Cancer Centre and expansion of the Bunbury Hospital Emergency Department by November 2012.

"Once complete, the new Coronary Care Unit will complement Bunbury Hospital’s expanded Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit, while the Cancer Centre will complement the recently opened Genesis Cancer Care Centre," Mr Grime said.

"We are closer to starting on new buildings which will contain technology and facilities to give local and much-needed health services to all people living in the South West region for many generations to come," he said.

Project funding has come from the contributions of St John of God Health Care ($4.52 million), the Commonwealth Government’s Health and Hospital Fund ($25.92 million) and the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Program ($5 million).

"The entire redevelopment is a great example of a private-public partnership working toward meeting the South West region’s health care needs today and into the future," Mr Grime said.

"What we are really talking about is avoiding a duplication of services and providing specialist health services closer to home for people living in the South West."
