Social Outreach and Advocacy
Through its Social
Outreach and Advocacy activities, St John of God Hospital
Bendigo continues the legacy of the founding Sisters of St John of
God. Community life is embraced, from birth to the end of
life, and all the challenges in between. Catholic health care
recognises a special obligation to reach out to those who are most
vulnerable and a belief that the healthiest society is one in which
every member is valued and respected.
We involve ourselves in partnerships with others
in a range of activities because true health involves all aspects
of the environment and conditions in which people live and
work.
In Bendigo, we have built special relationships with:
- Horizon House for homeless
youth, through providing meals for a food van, and maintenance for
the House.
Horizon
House in the News
-
Bendigo and District Aboriginal Cooperative, providing
regular diabetes and endocrine specialist indigenous clinics in
Bendigo and Swan Hill, and we will soon be providing the same
visiting service in Horsham.
- several other local service providers through our consortium
involvement with the Headspace initiative, which is
seeking to address youth mental health.
As well as helping the vulnerable, providing care and relief to
people who are oppressed, materially poor, powerless and
marginalised is core to St John of God Health Care's mission of
healing. We want to contribute toward just and inclusive
communities where everyone's dignity is respected and
supported.
