Volunteering

Bendigo volunteer

We are very fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers supporting our patients and working in a variety of capacities throughout the hospital.

Reception volunteers are at the main entrance of the Hospital to welcome and assist visitors, and help patients on their arrival and discharge.

Atrium Gift & Coffee Shop volunteers provide a welcoming respite in pleasant surrounds for patients, visitors, doctors and staff.

Ward Support volunteers provide care for our patients:

  • accompanying patients for a walk and companionship
  • assisting patients at mealtime
  • escorting patients from the ward on discharge
  • supporting and assisting staff and mothers at the parenting program and hydrotherapy
  • offering a relaxing hand or foot massage

Volunteers take the Mobile Library trolley to the wards regularly, offering books and magazines to all patients.

Volunteers also provide support in Administration, Day Surgery, Pathology and in our gardens.

Training and support

St John of God Hospital provides training for these volunteers in their area of work. They attend in-service sessions and meet regularly to socialise and support each another.
