Diabetes and endocrine
St John of God Hospital Bendigo offers a
diabetes self management education program to provide the
knowledge, skills and motivation to people with diabetes, allowing
them to effectively manage their condition.
Diabetes education is available for
- Management principles of Type 1, Type
2, Gestational and Pre-diabetes
- Blood glucose monitoring techniques
- Interpreting blood glucose levels in relation
to food, physical activity and medication
- Starting insulin injections/pump therapy
- People who are experiencing recurrent or
severe episodes of hypoglycemia
- Sick day management
- Footcare
- Surgery and diabetes
- Changes in lifestyle or contemplating
travelling
How to access the service
You can be referred by your GP or
specialist.

general enquiries, please contact (03) 5434-3286 9am-4pm
weekdays.
Location
The Diabetes Education Service operates from
St Francis House, in Lily Street, Bendigo next to the main hospital
building.
All clients who attend the Endocrinology
clinic can be seen by the diabetes educator and dietician with
referral from the endocrinologist.
Diabetes Support Group
This is available to clients of the St John of
God Hospital diabetes service, including inpatients. It is
held on the last Thursday of every month. Please contact 5434
3226 for dates. Refreshments provided.
Inpatients
An inpatient service is also available to
patients during their stay.
