Our oncology services
The Acute Medical/Oncology Unit is a 30 bed
unit. We care for patients with a range of oncology and medical
conditions, from diagnosis through to palliative care. The
inpatient Chemotherapy Room is staffed by a specialist Oncology
Nurse. Patients commence their treatment here prior to admission to
the unit.
All staff strive to provide excellent care,
that is based on evidence. Holism is an integral part of our
approach to al that we do.
Multidisciplinary team
The Medical/Oncology Unit is staffed by caregivers
with a combined wealth of experience in medical and oncology
nursing.
They are supported by an extensive allied
health team: pastoral Care, Cancer/Palliative Care Co-ordinator,
Discharge Planner, Clinical Nurse Educator, Wound Care and Stomal
Therapy, Dietician, Pharmacist, Physiotherapy, Continence Nurse,
Speech Pathology and Volunteers.
The unit is also heavily involved in nurse
education, in conjunction with the University of Ballarat and
Australian Catholic University. Many of our students are also
employed as Nurse Affiliates.
Consultants in a range of specialities refer
to General and Specialist Physicians, Oncologists/Haematologist and
Palliative Care Physicians.
