Caring for our environment
The
hospital strongly supports environmental stewardship with the aim
of reducing the environmental impact on our every day
activities. With this in mind the following environmental
initiatives have been initiated.
A water recycling system has been installed that recycles water
from the sterilisers in CSSD and collected in the 180,000 litre
tank storage farm. These tanks supply the boilers, cooling
towers, heating hot water and chill water makeup and water to all
toilets in the medical services building.
Two 25,000 litre concrete water tanks have also been
installed underground in front of Bailey’s Mansion to capture
harvested rain water from the front entry roof of the new
building.
The new hospital building design features
doubled glazed windows and sun shading, is fully sealed and
insulated, high water efficient sanitary fixtures, sensor taps in
key locations, high efficiency linear fluorescent lighting,
movement sensor controlled lighting within patient ensuites and
other key locations, light emitting diode (LED) lamps in
wards and photo electric (PE) cell activated external
lighting, and energy efficient air handling systems.
