Welcome to St John of God Hospital Ballarat
St John of God Hospital Ballarat was established in 1915 and is
the largest not-for-profit hospital in regional Victoria. It
has 209 beds and provides an extensive range of health
care providing city services to residents living in Ballarat and
Western Victoria.
The hospital has recently completed a major
transformation with a $65m construction program. The new
building houses:
- five wards
- emergency medicine
- hydrotherapy pool
- café and gift shop
- chapel
- pharmacy
- day procedure centre
- front reception
Also included was the development of a $2.2m
cardiac and vascular angiography
suite with the modern angiography equipment and interventional
angiography services - a first for the region.
Five operating theatres have been refurbished
with new state-of-art air handling and theatre equipment installed.
One theatre is digital which means images from the theatre can be
seen around the word – another first for the region.
Engineering services were upgraded with
installation of new cooling towers, heating hot water generators
and chillers and associated building and pipe work now supports the
buildings.
In addition a water
recycling system has been installed that recycles water from
the sterilisers in our sterilising department and
collected in the 180,000 litre tank storage farm. These tanks
supply the boilers, cooling towers, heating hot water and chill
water makeup and water to all toilets in the medical services
building.
Two 25,000 litre concrete water tanks have
also been installed underground in front of Bailey’s Mansion to
capture harvested rain water from the front entry roof of the new
building.
The investment in the hospital and the
community of Ballarat continues the already strong and proud
tradition of excellence in health care first started in Ballarat by
the Sisters of St John of God over 95 years ago. It is an exciting
new chapter in the hospital’s rich history and will enable it to
continue providing the very best in contemporary health care
services and facilities to the people of Ballarat and
surrounds.
