Our History
St John
of God Health Choices was launched on 1 July 2009 in response to
the growing need for the provision of health services to people in
their own homes and other non-hospital settings.
Health Choices continues and enhances the
legacy of the Sisters of St John of God, who ministered
to patients in their homes and to miners in their
tents on the Western Australian goldfields during a typhoid
outbreak in the 1890s. Our work also builds
upon St John of God Health Care's holistic approach
to health care by increasing our reach and capacity to enhance
people’s lives across physical, mental and spiritual
dimensions.
Health Choices started operating in Victoria, welcoming
caregivers already working in home care services at St John of God
Health Care's hospitals in Ballarat, Warrnambool and Geelong.
We now operate in partnership with existing home nursing services
at our Berwick, Bendigo and Subiaco hospitals and will soon be
incorporated into St John of God Hospital Murdoch and St John of
God Hospital Bunbury.
In May 2010, St John of God Health Choices significantly
increased its Victorian services by acquiring Melbourne-based
nursing provider M&M HealthPower, extending our geographic
coverage across metropolitan Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula,
Geelong and surrounding areas.
Health Choices operates alongside existing
home nursing services at St John of God hospitals around the
country.
