Dr Betros is a general surgeon who has consulted in the Hawkesbury since 2006, after completing a fellowship in general surgery and undergoing extended training in both upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery. He has also obtained a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree – both through the University of Sydney.

Dr Betros performs a range of common surgical procedures including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic (and open) hernia repair, gastroscopy and colonoscopy. In addition to this, he is experienced in the management and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers such as gastric cancer and bowel cancer.

His area of special interest is in the multidisciplinary management of complex and recurrent hernia disease. His techniques are at the forefront of evidence-based surgical care and he is active in the research and development of these new techniques.

Dr Betros does abdominal wall reconstruction, major abdominal issues and trauma, and is able to take on complex cases, including for patients who have had several prior surgeries with higher risk profiles. He has active memberships with General Surgeons Australia and the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is also active in the training, development and education of trainees for the RACS.
