Pastoral Education WA

St John of God Health Care offers an
accredited ecumenical Clinical Pastoral Education program of
education and formation in pastoral care, with the aim of
developing a person’s self-awareness, professional competence,
theological understanding and Christian commitment.
Learning
The program uses the action-reflection model
of adult learning and employs a variety of methods including formal
teaching, pastoral work in the clinical setting, group work and
written evaluations.
Key elements
Action component – the actual provision of
pastoral care within a real life hospital setting, designed to
develop an understanding of the psychological, theological and
spiritual concerns of people across a range of settings.
Reflection component – the exploration of the
pastoral experience and the dynamics present with its theological
and spiritual dimensions. This includes reflecting and presenting
to supervisors and peers on the experience of offering pastoral
care.
