St John of God Health Care nurses are among the best in WA, with two being confirmed as contenders in the prestigious 2011 WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.

Kara Clozza of St John of God Hospital Subiaco is a finalist in the Metropolitan Acute Care Registered Nurse category while Kizzi Neale of St John of God Hospital Murdoch is a finalist in the Graduate of the Year category.

The State's Health Minister, Kim Hames, said this year’s awards had attracted a record number of nominations, with over 230 nurses and midwives nominated across 16 categories.

St John of God Health Care’s Group Director Nursing, Kate Birrell, said the nurses were nominated for their all round excellence, dedication and focus on patient-centred care.

“This great news confirms that our nurses continue to play a key role in maintaining excellent standards of patient care at St John of God hospitals and comes on the back of our recent success in a series of independent patient and doctor satisfaction surveys.”

The surveys, conducted by the Press Ganey survey group, ranked the WA-based not for profit organisation in the top quartile of all participating hospitals, public and private, nationally,

Winners of the 2011 WA Nursing and Midwifery Awards will be announced at a gala dinner on Saturday, September 17.
