Environmental award
Caring in more ways than one
21 November 2011
St John of God Health Care’s innovative ‘Safeguarding Our
Environment’ program has earned it a place in the finals of the WA
Environment Awards in the Corporate Business Leading by Example
category.
St John of God has a number of successful environmental
initiatives under its belt. Its group environmental fund ensures
bright environmental ideas come to fruition while the
implementation of a sophisticated energy carbon intelligence system
allows it to capture energy and water usage in order to track
performance and achieve targets.
Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Michael Stanford, said: “From
our Board members and executives, who are pitching in by phasing
out paper through the widespread use of tablet computers and taking
part in sustainability leadership retreats, to our divisions who
are enthusiastically embracing a number of environmental
initiatives, we are determined to minimise the impact of our
activities wherever and whenever we can.”
Success stories include the installation of
solar hot water heating at our Murdoch hospital, with an
anticipated 13% annual energy saving and the Travel Green program
at our Subiaco hospital, which offers a daily allowance to those
who use green modes of travel such as public transport, cycling or
walking to get to work. So far, it has enticed 13% of the
hospital’s caregivers to leave their cars at home.
This nomination follows hot on the heels of St John of God
Hospital Subiaco’s win last week at the SAI Global Australian
Business Excellence Awards when its catering team took out the
National Excellence Award for its Food Safety Management
System.
The winner will be announced on Friday 25 November.
